As you may have read on the realm forums, or recently heard, we're opening recruitment for those interested in being a part of our guild in WotLK. We don't have much planned prior to the expansion in terms of serious raiding but we do have quite a few aces up our sleeve to fend off the possible boredom once the hype of the 3.0 changes have cooled off.
As for this new website there are several sections that are still under construction, we didn't want to delay recruitment any longer so this had to do for the start, just don't be surprised if you find bugs or vacant content left & right, it's all being worked on. As for the forums I haven't gotten around to molding the template to the new design, so you'll have to put up with the default white looks for the time being, I might put the previous template up in the mean while.
All the recruitment specific sections are finished and up to date though so you shouldn't have any problems filling out and submitting the application form, if that's what you're here for of course.
If any members do not have access to the forums send me a PM or poke me in game. Most likely all those I've given access to in the last 2 weeks will be concerned.
Thus far, the eventuality of us taking raiding seriously again has been but a possibility, but lately we've been speaking at length about it and have finally decided to set it in stone. In the expansion we will be doing our best once again in regards to PvE and raiding.
After such a break though, going through the motions and getting everything perfect again is going to take some time. So don't expect anything before WotLK. This said, we're calling on all our old members who are interested in forming part of the guild once again. For the time being there is no recruitment phase for people who have not been part of our guild in the past, but there will undoubtedly be one prior to the expansion, most likely in the few preceding weeks to the release.
It is still a while away, but something like this needs a lot of notice. With our members being all over the place right now, and with the possible release date set anywhere between October and December, it's grand time we get people informed. There's a thread in the general guild forums, it would be nice to hear from everyone and their intentions in WotLK.
(continued in guild forums)
Let's see them game faces folks!
ps: if you don't have access to the guild forums anymore, feel free to reply / comment in this thread instead.
Boredom is what happened. I guess that 5 month Illidan grind really did our heads in worse than we thought. The enthusiasm was already hanging by a thread when Sunwell Plateau came. And once the hype of the shiny new content cooled down, it became obvious that most of us had already drawn our last breath quite some time ago.
I'm not going to make this post melodramatic, after all Aftermath's core is sticking together. But it has simply been too long that we've kept asking ourselves "why do we bother?" and getting ever more frustrated at the turns this game keeps taking at the expense of end game raiding. Vanilla World of Warcraft is without a doubt one of the best online games we've played, and probably the sole reason we've kept playing up until this date. But to make a long story short, the expansion ruined too many aspects of the game for us to fully enjoy it.
This may come as a bit of a surprise since we've endured just about everything there is to endure as a guild. But we're not calling it a day because we have to, but because we simply don't have the will to continue doing this anymore... It has always been hard for us to replace the members we lose due to the server's ridiculously low population. Finding people with decent social and player skills who also understand the level of commitment required has never been easy (mainly due to the casual type of players an RP server attracts). On top of which, the amount of content Blizzard has released in the expansion has been slow & hardly awe inspiring. We had to wait until Black Temple for Molten Core & Sunwell Plateau for a Naxx-paced instance which unfortunately came too late for us. The PvP is no better either, Blizzard haven't lifted a finger to solve the precarious situation our battlegroup is in since patch 1.12, apart from a meaningless blue which lead to nothing.
But anyway, it has not all been doom & gloom for Aftermath. We could have easily transferred away from Scarshield Legion to a more active & populated server/battlegroup, but we didn't. Simply because, despite all the above ranting, we like it here. It has been a great 2 & a half years for us on Scarshield Legion, but unfortunately it has come to an end for now. We're not literally disbanding Aftermath, we'll still be around. Be it casually, raiding 10mans, PvPing or just staying in touch. But figuratively, in regards to large scale raiding & what we have stood for all this time, disbanding is pretty much the right term for it. At least until WotLK where we *might* try to reorganize ourselves. But that's a whole different story.
Consequentially, Aftermath's core player base has decided to move to Age of Conan. We might find in AoC what we're looking for, we might not. Time will tell I guess... But right now I'm afraid World of Warcraft is simply not cutting it, not by a long shot.
So in short, that's what happened... Hopefully another guild will be able to pick up our slack & mark new PvE standards for Scarshield Legion. Good luck to all of you!
- Aftermath (February 2006 - June 2008).
Yeah what can I say, it's early so I can't come up with any fancy titles just yet!
Anyway, this fight is a massive gear check, the amount of dps you've got to put out along with the beating the tanks & even the raid is taking is pretty harsh on every role that's being fulfilled during the encounter. It took us a while because half of our weekly raids have ended up in BT due to not having the apropriate people available as much as we'd have wanted. But either way, progress was obvious whenever we did raid SWP, so it's a really satisfying outcome despite the mildly frustrating delays we've had. And thank @!$% we didn't have to bother with our clothies rerolling Leatherworking after all!
And finally, after several 1% wipes on Sunday -as was fully expected- and after having a ball in BT on Monday \o/, it only took us a bit over 2 hours to kill him yesterday. Obviously I had to be the first to get spanked after the tank dropped dead, so I didn't get full satisfaction out of the last few percent, but that's something I can live with! Loot was Collar of the Pit Lord (Zardar), 2x Belt of the Forgotten Protector (Loogash & Rend) & Belt of the Forgotten Vanquisher (Fence).

After that some mastermind had the brilliant idea of solo nuking Felmyst who was circling above us, consequently bringing the whole raid to a swift & unexpected death. Official combat log reports state the involvement of the notorious Doom Lord Naltuk & several known associates!
*cough*
That's right, Sunwell progress!
We've been messing around quite a bit in Sunwell Plateau this week, which is in all honesty quite a display. The place looks amazing, and the trash is actually not all that easy the first time around, especially those packs which contain a scout. They're a bit like the Zul'aman scouts, they'll run towards a nearby robot scentry & try to activate it if you're not fast enough in killing him, which is in most cases a wipe. So it takes a bit of coordination to pull the pack correctly.
Quite a few fun things in this new instance, but Kalecgos is what this news post is really about. It did take us some time to get the portal rotations going, but once that was sorted he went down pretty easily. It was a fluke we didn't kill him on Thursday really! With that 3% wipe & all... But anyway, a different encounter for once, we enjoyed the progression & even the wipes for the most part (there's nothing like seeing Anshe & Zood die over & over, I swear). Loot was 2x Bracers of the Forgotten Vanquisher (Coy & Fence), Bracers of the Forgotten Conqueror (Darwinia) & Starstalker Legguards (Shartar).
Anyway, Kalecgos' death was Sunday's raid, and since we've been pretty busy on Brutallus! He's one tough sod, but there appeared to be alot more control right from the start & it seems like we've got the hang of him now. We got him to 9% last night, and even though that's still 900k damage that we're missing, we didn't go full out on destro or haste pots yet nor bring drums for each group. With all the little bits & pieces & pushing it a wee bit further, I'm pretty confident he'll bite the dust next time.
We've waited 5 months for this new content & it sure as hell feels good having somewhere to progress towards again!
ps: screenshots are being worked on ;o
Well it's been a bit quiet lately here, hasn't it? The front page was looking a bit dusty but that's just due to the lack of progress & interesting happenings to post about. Within, we're still alive & kicking and eager to hit Sunwell when it goes live!
And what better way to refresh the front page than with some self-propaganda? Well anyway, on a more serious note now...!
It has been exactly 2 years since the day that Aftermath's guild charter was signed in Thunder Bluff by the former members of Evernight, and that our journey on Scarshield Legion began. A journey that hasn't been all that easy for those who remain until this day. Even though we've managed to stay ever competitive & maintain our goals, it hasn't always been as easy, or the grass as green, as it may have seemed from an outsider's point of view. We've struggled many times, lost many members along the way, to the point that there are only a handful of the founding members remaining. We've been demoralized to the point of thinking it was all over more than once, gone through periods of leader transitions, and come across just about every imaginable obstacle there is for an online community such as ours.
But through commitment & patience we persevered, and today we harvest the rewards by looking back on 2 years of what I'm sure nobody will refute has been very good fun, with many fond memories of friends & foes, good & bad moments alike. Amongst many: Warlords, Nobility, Carnival of Carnage, Evernight, The Royal Division, CARE/Martyrium (and the many world PvP events we had with them) along with everyone who has passed through Aftermath & helped make us what we are today.
I have no doubt that the road ahead isn't any smoother than it has been in the past, but hopefully at the end of the day it'll still all be as much fun as it has been so far.
This said, Happy birthday Aftermath! \o/
It took us a while to crack this nut open... We had our first attempt last Monday on the 12th of November. It took us 4 nights (11 hours in total) worth of attempts over exactly one week to kill him. We nearly had him before last week's reset (19%) but we weren't fully prepared yet it seemed!
The ending is pretty disappointing though I have to say. The whole event leading up to the encounter & the encounter itself just makes you wonder what will happen when he dies. Akama & his Deathsworn's plot all throughout the instance, their help to open the doors to Illidan's Terrace, the small opening event in which Akama speaks to Illidan, and the cutscene where Maiev Shadowsong comes in at 30%... All that but in the end he just gets down on his knees & utters something to Maiev before dieing. No event, no quest item for a city event, nothing...
According to WoW-wiki:
Maiev: Ahh, it is finished...you are beaten!
Illidan:You have won...Maiev. But the huntress...is nothing without the hunt. You are nothing...without me...(gurgles, dies)
Maiev:He is right. I feel nothing. I am...nothing.
Maiev:Farewell...champions.
I mean we've just cleared all TBC content up to present, killed Illidan Stormrage who's a considerable character in Warcraft's Lore, cleansed the once glorious Temple of Karabor... Surely someone should be concerned? The Naaru? A'dal?! But it doesn't look like it, no event whatsoever... Anyway, he's dead & that's what matters I guess. Loot was: Cursed Vision of Sargeras (Fence), Shroud of the Highborne (Namariel) & 2xChestguard of the Forgotten Conqueror (Darwinia, Loob).
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/7784/illidanya6.jpg
Anyway, to celebrate the fact that we'd cleared TBC, we decided to go on tour around the Alliance capitals. To stir up some noise we started by Darnassus, we killed Tyrande Whisperwind first & then Fandral Staghelm. Our next destination was Ironforge, quite a bit of resistance there, but luckily we had Rend & Cato to hold the gate to the King's chamber while we made short work of Magni Bronzebeard! By the time we started to move towards the Tinker Town, it started becoming a bit harder to stay alive already :p We had half of Ironforge chasing us down. The 300 startegy seemed to work a treat though... Standing at the tunnel's exit & AoE'ing those coming through bought us enough time to put High Tinker Gelbin Mekkatorque to rest!
<faction leader killshots> (which I don't have)
The next destination was Stormwind, we exited through the Deeprun Tram & waited to resurect & summon everyone who had fallen behind. Onto the deeprun tram we went & onward to Stormwind! There was a welcome comitee waiting for us on the other end of the tram but that didn't stop us, not yet at least! We got to Highlord Bolvar Fordragon, but that's when things started to crumble apart. Apparently, a fellow Horde raid had hit Stormwind before us, so we found the city a bit more crowded than we'd expected :p Add the rabid hundreds that had followed us over from Ironforge & Fordragon's pain in the arse AoE Hammer of Justice & you have what it takes to take down an Aftermath raid! *cough*
http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5974/ownedif5.jpg
The lag at this point was unbelievable, I was stunned for something like 2 minutes straight, either 50% of the alliance there were paladins targetting me or that AoE Hammer of Justice has a 10 second CD. Even getting instant casts off like deathcoil or a curse took 15 seconds at least. Anyway, we didn't get the Stormwind leaders in the end, but that was probably the best fun me & alot of others have had since our old world struggles with Martyrium.
After all, 4 factions leaders (including the most important of all - Magni Bronzebeard) in something like an hour & a half at peak time in the evening, can't be all that bad! I'm sure our members will post some screenshots in this thread of our little expedition *hint hint nudge nudge*
So I guess that's us done with TBC, untill 2.4 at least... But don't worry we still got a few hidden tricks up our sleeves to keep ourselves busy & entertained untill then!
After taking Illidan Stormrage down to 19% on barely our second evening of Atempts, the reset kicked in leaving us with an unquenchable enthusiasm to return. But it's Wednsday & that's an off-day for us, so we had to content ourselfs with the blazing new Zul'Aman...
The instance looks fantastic, a really well built "dungeon" so to say. It's very open & gives the same feeling Hyjal Summit does in the sense that it's not the typical dungeon crawl. Somehow it didn't quite feel like Zul'Gurub though, looks like Blizzard learnt something from the tons & tons of trash they'd put in ZG & the time it took to complete it. The only thing that ZA is maybe lacking (similar to EotS) is that it has no reputation & consequential rewards.
As for the actual encounters, they're all pretty distinct from each other & very varied fights - good fun. Not much to say about the first 2, the Bear & Eagle Avatars were pretty easy & straight forward, the eagle's storm was tricky on the first atempt if anything. But the one we struggled with the most of the first 5 was probably Halazzi - the Lynx Avatar. On the Dragonhawk Avatar we just let the first 2 hatchers hatch all the eggs & aoe'd the adds down, doubt that's the way it's meant to be done but it worked for my team at least :p Hexx Lord Malacrass wasn't hard at all in fact, I was expecting him to be the Jin'do of ZA but he turned out to be the easier than the previous 2.
And finaly...Zul'jin! This fight is 5-phased starting with his troll form in phase 1 then rotating all four of the Avatars as the next phases. The Eagle Avatar (Phase 3) is just generaly annoying, The Lynx Avatar (Phase 4) is very luck based (18k crushing hits ftw!) & the last phase is the phase that finishes you off with lots of potential AoE damage if you weren't lucky enough in the previous phases. Or that's how it seemed as a first approach to the encounter anyway... I guess with some Intervene & BoP rotations on the fixates in phase 4 it'll be easy with a bit of practice.
Anyway at the end of the day both parallel teams cleared Zul'Aman & neither took any screenies! But notable loot was Formula: Enchant Weapon - Executioner (Nishare) Grimgrin Faceguard (Cato, Vurbag) Hex Shrunken Head (Darwinia) and... *drumroll* Tiny Voodoo Mask! (Vaka). That's the loot I can remember anyway, not sure what the other team got at Hexx Lord though!
Anyway, all in all some pretty fun new content for us to hammer away at during non raid days.
Well I guess you could say that Tuesday's raid went as expected...!
It was nice to see that people had been working on their shadow resistance gear before the raid, the lowest figure we had in the raid was 270 buffed I think, and most were above 300. This made Mother Shahraz a walk in the park, and we killed her on our second atempt of the evening, meaning we spent roughly 3 hours in total between Monday & Tuesday learning the encounter which is better than average I'd assume! Loot was, Tome of the Lightbringer (Ammir - off spec) & 2 of the legendary tokens that are only uttered in Myths... Conqueror! 2xPauldrons of the Forgotten Conqueror (Loob & Darwinia).
http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/1890/shahrazgp6.jpg
After that we started making our way towards the Illidari Council, some new Sentinel trash there but nothing special. Scenery started looking pretty, and there they were, all 4 of them! It took us a few atempts to get the pulls right but after that it's a bit like Archimonde in the extent where staying alive is crucial & dps is not. Took us a few atempts to figure that out but in the end after an hour or 2 we had a really smooth kill. Looting these is a pain in the arse though, each mob dies at a different corner of the room, and there are 4 of them! Anyway, Belt of Divine Guidance (Namariel) & 2xLeggings of the Forgotten Vanquisher (Fence & Zardar).
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6765/councilfa4.jpg
So, that's 2 new kills in one day & 3 new kills in a week. I guess that makes up for the last couple of weeks of attunements we've had to go through. And of course, Illidan on the horizon, well actually he's even alot closer than that...
http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/7834/preillidan1gv9.jpg http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/1051/preillidan2qz7.jpg http://img468.imageshack.us/img468/2848/preillidan3vl9.jpg http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/8796/preillidan4dt1.jpg
The obvious question now is, are we prepared?!
I guess we'll soon find out...
Well attunements have had us pretty busy lately, unfortunatly that just seems to be the general pattern. Worth it obviously, but just very demanding on the ol' schedule.
We've been on & off this encounter, the Reliquary of Souls, in the past 2 to 3 weeks, and in the end it really only took us 3 nights of atempts at him, which could have easily been done & over in a single week's time. But as I said, attunement runs took their toll...
The fight's pretty technical, the 3 phases (Essence of Suffering, Essence of Desire & Essence of Anger) are all pretty different from each other so it's basically like learning a fully blown new encounter everytime. Very few elements or abilities are shared between the different phases (if any).
Finaly though, push came to shove & it ran out of Souls to toss our way (go us) and at last the 3rd Essence flipped the loot instead of chickening away! Out played imo... Boneweave Girdle (Dacaj) & The Wavemender's Mantle (Loogash).
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/7379/reliquaryqr2.jpg
Then yesterday, we decided to give Mother Shahraz a shot, nothing special about the trash before her. And with the raid on a general low SR level and only one & a half hours of atempts we managed to get her to 49%! That might mean something good for today's raid, who knows!
So don't forget to work that SR!
