These next few months are going to be great for TF fans and halflife2 gamers alike. It is with great pleasure that we announce Fortress Forever will be released this September, and of course it will be free to all halflife 2 owners . The game will release with 10 core maps featuring 6 different game modes centering around capture the flag, and capture and defend gameplay. Spread the word and get ready for action!
Fortress Forever expands on the classic team fortress action as well as introducing elements to improve accessibility for players new to the genre. If you ever find yourself antsy waiting to get back into the action in other multiplayer games, then this is the game for you. It's not all instant gratification though; within the game there are classes to suit every player's style, be it stealth, finesse with movement, precision aim, the joy of weilding a ridiculous amount of explosives, or simply brute force . Even within these classes (9 in total) you can go about developing your own playstyle.
We hope to get out some simple no frills gameplay clips in the upcoming days to show the kind of experience players can expect the first time they fire up the game, but there is no real substitute for experiencing it firsthand. We hope to see you in the server on release day.
Another reminder to those who plan to host servers on release: Send an email to fortressforever@gmail.com with your server or mirror information. If you already sent your info we still have it on file, so no need to resend; thanks!
Also we are still looking for a programmer and character modeller/texture artist for post release enhancement and support. If you have any other talent you'd like to lend, we will be interested so let us know.
On a final note: Thanks to the halflife2 community for all the support (and criticism) during development. We've listened carefully to feedback around the general community, and are confident that it has helped shape the first release for the better, and will continue to help shape the game through its lifetime.
Cheers,
-The FF team

LEFT 4 DEAD || http://www.l4d.com/
My last news post which is quite old now, was from when it was first announced, and media was impossible to find. If you havn't been following along with this game, or havn't heard of it yet, I suggest you check it out.
Gameplay video:
http://www.pcgamerpodcast.com/video/?p=40
(Either click play in pop-up or right-click+save as where it says "download")
You need either quicktime or VLC player to watch this one, don't mind the annoying army commercial in the beginning that will try to encourage you to go get shot.
Note: As typical of videos made from lan events, probably only slightly less than half the video is actual gameplay. Also those are pcgamer editors playing I believe, incase you were wondering
G4 Video:

Another cool gameplay video from G4 this time.

November 20, 2006
Turtle Rock Studios and Valve today announce Left 4 Dead, a co-operative multiplayer action game from the makers of Counter-Strike.
"By leveraging its industry-leading AI technology and years of Counter-Strike development experience, Turtle Rock is building upon the elements that make Counter-Strike successful and applying them to Left 4 Dead," said Gabe Newell, co-founder and president of Valve. "What Counter-Strike did for multiplayer action games, Left 4 Dead will do for co-op games."
Left 4 Dead is built atop the most advanced version of the Source Engine and introduces version 2 of Turtle Rock's artificial intelligence (A.I.) technology.
Left 4 Dead will debut on the PC in 2007.

So I've been inactive with mapping for over a year, and was shown some map ideas for a vi5 from Tyrant^vi. So I decided to take up the offer and start mapping again.
Here's videos of the jumps I got so far, they're pretty small downloads as they're only around 30sec each.
Jump 1(9.62mb)
Jump 2(7.80mb)
Jump 3(7.74mb)
Enjoy!
This is also posted in the mapping forum HERE.

I opened up my VHE a few days ago and I decided to compile a selection of jumps that didn't make it into my final compile from other maps. Some jumps in this will be A jump removed from concmap_esad6, a few jumps from an unreleased concmap_esad10_2, and a jump originally designed by Moose himself. All these jumps plus a few unique jumps will be included in concmap_trojan4. Expect to see the map posted within the next few days. Here is one screen shot of a unique jump to Trojan4...

This mod is a glimpse of what the new style of rocket jumping may be like. Although, there could be a few improvements, it is still worth a try A bit of fun while waiting for Fortress-Forever to be released.
The mod can be found here.
http://mods.moddb.com/6091/
I also put up a link on filefront for those who cant find the file on moddb.
http://files.filefront.com/Skills_Setupexe/;4306102;;/fileinfo.html
The mod comes with a remake of "conc_speed" Hopefully, a few mappers can whip up something for "Skills" to get this mod rolling a bit.
Test your Rocketing and Grenade priming Skill ?

Decided to have a go at making a ctf map, I know its not skillz/fun but designed to use all your concery expertise to full effect in this one, well here it is. I enjoy a game of ctf but every map uses the same boring textures, equivelent of concmaps rock and grass but ctf maps are um concrete and concrete so in an attempt to make people aware that it is possable to use different textures lol made this.
Heres a small pic, loads more in Headz mapping showcase gallery

http://www.turtlemaps.com/maps/capacity.zip
If anyone pulls off some cool concs ingame Id love to see them:)
I managed to do a nice drop conc from the warp thingy at the top but hard to get 100% so maybe some nutter concers can show their skillz
If this plays well which it seemed to in testsing Ill port to source

Hey guys I've wanted to create a tutorial site for a long time now and I was thinking about setting up something so anybody could submit a tutorial and then I realized.. HEY WHY DON'T I JUST MAKE A WIKI!
http://the-wasteland.net/concwiki
I really have never used a wiki as an editor or an admin and I am looking for help. So far I have set up very little.
You are all welcome to create your own tutorials.
I think this will be a great way for people to contribute their knowledge of concing and for beginners to find help on specific maps/jumps.
Please use a similar convention as I used for the concmap_r tutorial: http://the-wasteland.net/concwiki/index.php/Concmap_r

All bans have been removed (careful people!)
I don't really have that much time to take care of the server this year but the plan was (last time I talked to ogre) to set it up so it is basictly his server.
P.S: still moving in to the dorm and I think I am re-arranging the forniture sometime so server may go down for a little bit at some point.
PEACE
